Freshman Mission Week provides team building, service opportunities for Class of 2029

Freshman Mission Week provides team building, service opportunities for Class of 2029

As part of Mercy Academy’s orientation program, the Class of 2029 took part in Freshman Mission Week from September 2–5. The week was designed to nurture community, faith, and friendship while helping students discover what it truly means to be a Mercy student. Each day carried its own theme and purpose, building a strong foundation rooted in the values of Mercy.

Highlights of Freshman Mission Week

Freshman Retreat

Students explored the history and charism of the Sisters of Mercy and our foundress, Catherine McAuley. The retreat, led by Ms. Elissa Horrell with support from faculty, staff, and upperclasswomen, gave students a deeper appreciation for being part of a tradition that has shaped countless lives.

Compassionate Leadership & Team Building

This day focused on cultivating compassion for oneself and others. Through engaging sessions and interactive physical challenges, students learned the importance of teamwork, communication, and practicing empathy in their daily lives.

Mercy in Action

Students experienced Mercy’s mission firsthand by serving at Catholic Charities Migration and Refugee Services. Through hands-on activities, reflection, and an introduction to the Sisters of Mercy Critical Concerns, students witnessed the power of standing in solidarity with those facing poverty and injustice.

Confidence, Kindness, & Connection

This day centered on building self-confidence, practicing kindness, and strengthening connections with peers. These sessions equipped students with practical skills to support their growth and success, both in high school and beyond.

Freshman Mission Week serves as not just a series of activities, but an invitation for the Class of 2029 to embrace Mercy’s values, deepen relationships, and grow in their understanding of what it means to BE Mercy.
