Mercy Academy hosts Compassion Capstone Expo Day

Mercy Academy hosts Compassion Capstone Expo Day

On Wednesday, Dec. 3rd, the Class of 2026 hosted their Compassion Capstone Expo Day for the Mercy community. During the Expo, students showcased the social justice service projects they have been working on throughout the fall semester as a component of their Social Justice Leadership course.

Students had the opportunity to share and reflect on their service experiences, social justice topics, and how these issues can continue to be addressed in our community.

Underclasswomen, faculty, and staff were invited to explore and ask questions about the seniors’ social justice projects.

The Compassion Capstone is a culminating group service-learning project that all members of the Senior class participate in. As seniors, students are equipped with the tools needed to create a lasting impact in the community as they focus on both service in the community and systemic change through advocacy. Capstone projects use a collaborative approach as students practice real-world leadership skills in the planning and execution of a service project in the community with local non-profit partner organizations to address their social justice issue.

This year, seniors partnered with more than 25 non-profit partner organizations across Kentuckiana.

Social justice topics included support for women in poverty, anti-human trafficking, food insecurity, child abuse prevention, supports for youth in foster care, care for animals, immigration and refugee support, domestic violence prevention, environmental sustainability, access to healthcare, and homelessness prevention.

We are extremely proud of the Class of 2026 and all they have accomplished through their Compassion Capstone projects this semester. As Women of Mercy, our students live out our Mercy Creed each day as they are “able to lead and willing to serve” all those in our community!
