Mercy Academy hosts Galentine's Day celebration

Mercy Academy hosts Galentine's Day celebration

Everyone knows about Valentine's Day, but in recent years, a holiday celebrating women's friendship has taken the world by storm. Galentine's Day, typically observed on February 13 and popularized by the sitcom Parks and Recreation, encourages women to support and uplift one another. Given how closely this aligns with Mercy Academy's mission, it's only fitting that we host a Galentine's Day celebration of our own.

On February 13, Mercy Academy held its second annual Galentine's Day celebration, welcoming fifth through seventh-grade students from the Louisville area. The event provided a fun and inclusive space for girls to experience Mercy Academy while connecting with peers who share similar interests.

Leading up to the event, Mercy Academy promoted Galentine's Day through postcards and emails sent to students enrolled in Archdiocese of Louisville schools, as well as those outside that gropu who had previously engaged with Mercy. The invitation also reached the entire alumnae database, and the event was actively promoted on social media. As a result, more an 100 fifth through seventh-grade students attended.

During the celebration, students enjoyed a variety of fun activities, including BINGO, Galentine's-themed friendly competitions, and a craft-your-own drink station where they customized juices, lemonades, and sodas with flavors, glitter, and candy. They also personalized makeup bags and had time to relax and color. The night concluded with a lively silent disco, where students danced to music through wireless headphones, which proved to be a clear highlight of the event. Mercy Academy students also participated in the fun, volunteering to help set up and engage with the visiting students.

Paige Stewart, Assistant Director of Admissions & Marketing at Mercy Academy, said the event was all about building new friendships and showcasing the Mercy Academy community.

"Galentine's Day has grown in popularity as a celebration of female friendships, and we wanted to embrace that spirit - giving young girls the opportunity to be themselves, enjoy a carefree, 'girly' evening, and build new connections," she said. "More than just a fun event, this experience reflects the sense of community and friendship that defines Mercy Academy."
