Mercy Academy Hosts Young Alumnae Homecoming

Mercy Academy Hosts Young Alumnae Homecoming

Mercy Academy recently welcomed graduates from the classes of 2024, 2023, 2022, 2021, and 2020 for the annual Young Alumnae Homecoming event. This cherished tradition, spanning over three decades, provided a warm opportunity for alumnae to reconnect with former classmates and mentores while celebrating their shared Mercy experience.

A total of 80 alumnae attended the event from all five graduating classes. Graduates explored the familiar halls of Mercy Academy, shared stories with teachers, and indulged in Mercy cookies. A highlight of the event was the chance for alumnae to learn about the Senior Service Capstone presentations from current seniors. For many, it was a meaningful moment to reflect on their own Capstone experiences, which had shaped their final year at Mercy and inspired their paths beyond high school.

Emily Willis, Director of Annual Giving and Alumnae Relations at Mercy Academy, said the annual event is scheduled to coincide with collegiate winter breaks while taking place before Mercy Academy begins its own holiday break. This timing ensures that alumnae not only have the opportunity to reunite with their classmates but can also reconnect with their favorite Mercy teachers and staff.

"Mercy girls find themselves all over the world after graduation, ranging from furthering their education and trade skills to studying abroad and completing mission work," Willis said. "Having an opportunity near the holidays to welcome them back home is truly special. These young women are shaping their futures but also remember where their foundations began; it really is a full circle moment. I think numerous alumnae would share that your Mercy experience doesn't end after graduation."

Willis said the experience is not only gratifying for graduates, but also for teachers and staff members, as it offers them the opportunity to see former students they've taught, mentored, and supported excel and thrive as they navigate their lives beyond Mercy Academy.

"You get so used to seeing them in their Mercy uniforms, so to see them come back in their own style and college gear, there is such a sense of pride to see them flourishing," she said. "There are hugs and laughter, sometimes happy tears. It is so special to be a part of those moments."
