Mercy Academy welcomes Class of 2029 through summer programming

Mercy Academy welcomes Class of 2029 through summer programming

At Mercy Academy, the journey to becoming a Mercy student begins long before the first day of school. For the Class of 2029, that journey is already underway with a series of fun, supportive, and engaging summer events designed to ease the transition into high school and start building a strong foundation for success.

Throughout July, incoming freshmen are invited to participate in Mercy 101: Freshman Success Camp, a free, three-day experience centered around the empowering theme, “Be That Girl.” This program gives students an inside look at what it means to be part of the Mercy community while equipping them with essential tools for academic and personal success.

During the camp, students build key skills in organization, study habits, reading, and writing, while also learning what makes Mercy a place they can call home. By the end of the program, each student leaves with not just new knowledge, but the confidence to thrive from day one.

Led by Mercy Academy staff members Bailey Dearing and Meghan Wright with the help of student volunteers, the camp focuses on building relationships with peers and student mentors; learning about Mercy traditions and upcoming events; navigating the building and feeling comfortable with the layout; developing study skills and organizational strategies; setting academic and personal goals; and creating a “high school bucket list” to get excited about the years ahead.

During the camp, common questions are answered, including those students might be hesitant to ask, and students are introduced to key faculty/staff members and student leaders they’ll encounter at school. Students are also provided the opportunity to learn directly from current student leaders and alumnae through panel discussions. These panels offer insight into student life, leadership opportunities, and how to make the most of their high school experience from those who have lived it.

The Freshman Success Camp is one of many ways Mercy Academy prepares incoming freshmen for the year ahead. In June, Mercy hosted a Class of 2029 Summer Social, where students gathered in the gymnasium to play games, solve puzzles, and make memories. Students were placed in groups to help them meet new people, step outside of their comfort zone and have fun.

In August, Mercy freshmen will take part in Jaglife Orientation. This event is designed to ensure every student feels fully prepared for the school year ahead, offering everything they need to know about academics, campus life, and what it truly means to be a Mercy Jaguar.

These summer programs are just some of the many ways Mercy Academy helps students start strong, stay confident, and feel connected from the very beginning.
