Mercy Day celebrated at Mercy Academy

Mercy Day celebrated at Mercy Academy

Students at Mercy Academy proudly celebrated Mercy Day on September 24 as they do every year, commemorating the founding of the first House of Mercy in 1827 by Catherine McAuley in Dublin, Ireland. This day honors McAuley's foundational work in establishing the Sisters of Mercy and her legacy of compassion, faith, and dedication to serving the less fortunate.

At Mercy Academy, this sacred occasion also serves as an opportunity to recognize students who are recipients of our Mercy Day Scholarships. Made possible by the generosity of the Mercy community, these annual scholarships support families in need of financial assistance, helping students continue their education rooted in the values of service and faith. A large variety of scholarships have been established, honoring and memorializing members of the Mercy community, including Mercy alumnae, parents, teachers and more.

The Mercy Day Mass was a central event in our celebration, bringing together students, families, and community members. The Mass honored scholarship recipients and expressed gratitude to those who contribute to this meaningful cause.

As Mercy Day reminds us, the legacy of Catherine McAuley endures not only through faith-based educational opportunities like those offered at Mercy Academy but also in the lives of its students, who are inspired to serve others and live by faith.
