The Legacy of the Class of 2018

Ever since Mercy was founded in 1885, seniors have always upheld the traits of a Mercy girl. Those traits are leadership, compassion, empowerment, faith, and many more. As seniors, our job is to be a role model of those traits to our little sisters in the building and those to come. There has always been sisterhood and the feeling of home at Mercy, but I believe this year it truly was shown. I didn't fully understand that concept until the last few weeks of senior year, but what makes it so special is the values we share with family.

This year, our theme was one home, one family, one circle of Mercy. The Class of 2018 truly symbolizes that theme through our everyday lives inside and outside of the classroom. I have seen family through the support my classmates offer when I am stressed or upset. No matter what is going on with them, they put their life on pause to listen and care about my stress and problems and offer advice. I have seen family through the interaction between students and faculty by the way the faculty at Mercy genuinely cares about us and our well-being, even after we graduate and move on to college. I have seen family through the love that we share, whether it be as big as decorating lockers for birthdays or a giant hug on a Monday morning, or the simple things such as a smile in the hall or good job for hard work that you put in on an assignment.

The last four years, the Class of 2018 has treated Mercy with honor. We have laughed there. We have cried there. We have received good news and bad news there. Sometimes, we have fallen asleep there...oops. We have felt the connectedness of sisterhood there. 5801 Fegenbush Lane is our home and the Mercy community is our family. We hope to pass on the legacy of family and the sense of home to the upcoming seniors next year and the years to come.

To end on a quote from Catherine McAuley, "The tender Mercy of God has given us one another." God has given us the gift of a timeless family through the circle of Mercy that roots us in faith, lifts us in hope, and holds us in God's loving care. My sisters, embrace your everlasting family and live your life through the spirit of Mercy.
