In partnership with the Archdiocese of Louisville, Mercy is welcoming Dr. Leonard Sax, MD, PhD, a New York Times bestselling author to discuss his book, The Collapse of Parenting, on Tuesday, September 17.
Mercy Academy's National Honor Society is providing free childcare during Dr. Sax's parent presentation from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Children three years of age or older are welcome to attend. No RSVP needed.
Dr. Sax has found that, "Over the past 30 years, a major shift has occurred in American culture: the transfer of authority from parents to children. Activities with same-age peers now commonly displace family activities. Children today often choose what's for supper; they choose which social media they will engage; they often choose their bedtime and sometimes even their school. These factors and related influences have led to children and teenagers to be less resilient, less physically fit, and more likely to become anxious or depressed – and far more fragile – compared with kids from the same demographic 30 years ago."
