Mercy Day Scholarships
Several Mercy Academy alumnae and friends sponsor Mercy Day Scholarships. These scholarships are awarded on an annual basis and are tailored to fit specific criteria such as a student’s scholastic ability, service to the community and love for Mercy.
Applications are due to Mary Schmidt Lotz '67 by Thursday, March 29.
In order to apply, a student must:
Adams Family Scholarship - $500 (four years)
was established in 2002 in memory of Kelly Lynn Adams Bratcher, a graduate of Holy
Albertus Magnus Scholarship - $1,000
This scholarship was established in 2013 and is given to freshmen entering Mercy from St. Albert the Great Parish.
Drew Wilson Memorial Scholarship - $1,000
This scholarship was established in memory of Drew Wilson and is funded by his parents, Kate and Scott. His sister, Lauren ’02, is a Mercy alumna.
Eleanor Rose Roberts Norton Memorial Scholarship - $1,000
This scholarship was established by James Norton in memory of Eleanor Rose Roberts Norton '41. She was a generous, kind woman with a wonderful sense of humor and commitment to her faith.
Flaget Alumni Association Scholarship - $1,000
This scholarship is given to each Catholic high school in Louisville. It is made possible by the generosity of the Flaget High School alumni.
Jane Conboy Scholarship - $1,000
This scholarship was established by Barbara and Vic Ward in honor of Barbara’s sister, Jane Conboy, a current teacher at Mercy Academy.
Karen Ramser Filcik Scholarship - $1,000
This scholarship was established in 1994 in honor of Karen Ramser Filcik ’75. Karen’s daughters, Kate ’04 and Samantha ’07, are also graduates of Mercy.
Laura Schulz Memorial Scholarship - $1,000
This scholarship was established in 1998 in memory of Laura Schulz ’78, by her family and friends.
Laverne Schlaug Gregory Memorial Scholarship - $1,500
This scholarship was established in 2009 in memory of Laverne Gregory ’41.
Kramer Service Learning Scholarship - $1,000
This scholarship was established by Lillian Kramer, founder of Mercy’s Service Learning Program.
Lily Strange Memorial Scholarship - $1,000
This scholarship was established in memory of Lily Russell Strange ’49, who credits the Sisters of Mercy with helping her to overcome educational struggles and prepare her for a successful future.
Martin Napper Memorial Scholarship - $1,000
This scholarship was established in 2013 in memory of Martin Napper, a long-time teacher, who spent the final years of his career at Mercy Academy.
Mary Jean Schulz Memorial Scholarship - $1,000
This scholarship was established in memory of Mary Jean Schulz by her late husband, Edgar Schulz. She was the mother of Mercy alumnae, Laura ’78 and Karen ’74.
Montgomery/Blazis Scholarship Fund - $1,000
This scholarship was established by Rosie Allocco in honor of her daughter, Heather Montgomery Blazis ’92, Alumnae Relations Manager at Mercy, and her two granddaughters, Caleigh ’18 and Emma ’20.
Natalie Thompson Memorial Scholarship - $1,000
This scholarship was established in memory of Natalie Thompson, a Mercy student who was tragically killed in a car accident the summer before her junior year.
Norma Gerwing Bender & Mary Ann Gerwing Cundiff Scholarship - $1,000
This scholarship is given in honor of Norma Gerwing Bender ’52 and in memory of her sister, Mary Ann Gerwing Cundiff ’50, in appreciation of the life-enriching values, the excellent education and strong spiritual formation the Gerwing family received at Mercy.
Roalofs Spirit of Mercy Scholarship - $1,000
This scholarship is sponsored by the Roalofs family, which includes former Mercy teacher Linda Roalofs and Mercy alumnae, Christine ’85, Karen ’89 and Katie ’92.
Schlosser Family Scholarship - $1,500
This scholarship was established in 2012 and is sponsored by the Schlosser family. Their daughters, Leslie ’04, Anne ’05 and Marie ’06, graduated from Mercy.
Sheri Applegate Memorial Scholarship - $500
This scholarship was established in 1985 in memory of Sheri Applegate ’84, who tragically died in a car accident just a few days before graduation.
Sister Mary Carmel Henley Performing Arts Scholarship - $1,000
This performing arts scholarship is given by a past Mercy parent and is anonymously funded.
Sister Mary Prisca Pfeffer Scholarship - $1,250
This scholarship was established by John Harris, parent of Jennifer ’10, in memory of Sister Mary Prisca Pfeffer ’32.
Tricia Banta Amburgey “Carpe Diem” Scholarship - $1,000
This scholarship is given in memory of Tricia Banta Amburgey ’89. Tricia fought a courageous five-year battle with breast cancer. She was an extraordinary student, wife and mother, and a true woman of Mercy.
Walsh Family Scholarship - $1000
This scholarship was established in 2013 by the Walsh and Alpiger families. Karen Alpiger is assistant principal at Mercy and her two daughters, Christine ’01 and Liz ’03, are both alumnae.
Families with more than one daughter enrolled at Mercy qualify for our Sisters' Discount. The oldest daughter's tuition is reduced by 15%. Please contact the Business Office at (502) 671-2010 for more information.
